First Snow Fall

I woke up the other morning to the most breath-taking sight!  A beautiful white blanket of sparkling snow covered the dull, dead ground of the fall landscape.  The entire out-of-doors was lit up from the reflection of the morning sun on the blanket of freshly fallen snow.  It was very refreshing to the eyes from what had become the normal gloomy dark mornings of fall foliage and lifeless grass.

Any fresh snow fall is stunning.  It covers the old dirty mess that was once poisoning our eyes.  It blankets the filth of the world with a renewed sparkling concealment.  Do you have something like that in your life?  Poisoning your life?  That you wish you could cover up with a fresh snow fall.  Maybe you are already covering it up?

When a load of snow is dumped on your life, it isn’t fun.  As awesome as it is at covering up the dead ground, and the ugly brown leaves that the fall has left behind, it is a ton of work.  You have to shovel, plow, snow blow, scrape, and freeze, all to get through your days.  Some days it is easier to stay in bed and ignore the mess that awaits you outside of the walls of your home.  You don’t want to face the work that lies before you, nor the cold that you have to subject yourself to.

This is much the same as our lives.  We are hiding from the truth in many areas of our lives.  We all do it!  Admit it!  We are human.  Maybe you are hiding a debt that you don’t want to face?  Or are you trying to deny to yourself that your relationship is failing?  Could it be that you are in such a state of mental anguish that you just don’t want to face the world at all?  Is everything just piling up in your life, and you don’t know what to do?

Whatever your problem is, just realize that it is a lot of work, but it is only for a season.  Sure you have to work hard shoveling and shoveling in the freezing cold, but at the end of the winter tunnel is the beauty that awaits us with spring.  The same is true with your life’s problems.  You might have to make some sacrifices for a period of time, but your finances will come around.  Maybe you have to start putting in some extra effort into that relationship that you feel is dying, but with some love and attention, it could be more amazing than ever.  Whatever your struggle is, whatever you are trying to cover up with the snow, just give it some attention and hard work, and before you know it will start to come alive again.

Isaiah 55:10 explains, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater.”

It’s true.  Snow is just covering the ground temporarily, to bring new life to our lives.  It might seem like unnecessary work, painfully cold, and dreadfully annoying, but only if you choose to look at it like that.  If you change your focus to thinking it as a time to put new life into something in your world that is dying, that you just have to put some elbow grease into the it will come alive again.  It might even seem worth the pain.

I know there are many things in my life that I need to put extra work into and there is no better time than today.  It’s time to dig out my shovel and start unloading some unnecessary snow in my world.  What about you?
